The world is going safe at dewats summit - nairobi
Safe drinking water and sanitation are fundamental human rights, critical for health, livelihoods, and socio-economic stability. However, when water is scarce or polluted, it exacerbates food and health insecurity, economic hardship, and conflict.
Summit Background
Africa faces growing and interconnected risks from pandemic threats, antimicrobial resistance, climate change and food systems fragility, many of which are mediated through wastewater, environmental contamination and human-animal-environment interfaces.
The DEWATS for Pandemic Preparedness and Response DEWATS (PPR) initiative responds to these challenges by leveraging integrated, decentralized wastewater treatment systems as multi-functional public health, surveillance, resource recovery and climate resilience infrastructure.
